Ode to the Half-Broken by Suzanne Palmer
Jenise Nelson
A cozy sci-fi read full of hope with themes of grief, guilt, loneliness, and finding community.
I really enjoyed Ode to the Half-broken by Suzanne Palmer. Part buddy comedy, part post apocalypse hero tale. All around great read with an original story and descriptive world building.
War, disease, and misinformation have ravaged earth. Sentient independent Mechs now live among the scattered remaing humans, some peacefully, some not.
We meet our unnamed MC just after they've woken up from an assault, their leg is missing but help is on the way. A cyborg dog named Atticus is here for most of the comedic relief and all of the cozy friendship vibes.
I'm obsessed with the friendships in this book. The way all the characters respect each other is so comforting. They reassure, they check in, they give space to process, and really watch out for each other. It's very inclusive.
(Sometimes a bit heavy on tech description but it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the plot.)
Thank you Netgalley and DAW for allowing me to read this incredible story 𖹭
